Pictures I Love - Mission in Action

Perhaps you've thought about trying out a short term mission?  To be frank, our mission trips demand some physical and spritual endurance! First you have to get there, and Eastern Europe is a long way, compared to Mexico, or some of those southern island nations. We cram a lot in, making the most of our time, and though we're not doing a building program, or digging a well, it can be tiring. The culture is completely foreign - even the alphabet is not the same! You typically won't be able to even spell out the words to guess what they might mean. God, however, is exactly the same. The family is there. If you think this mission might be for you, drop us a line using the contact form at the right of the page. Just let us know about your interest, and request information, and we'll get back to you soon about plans for the next trip.

Here are three pictures to share with you, which to me sum up a lot of what Worship With Us is about, and also why mission at home and overseas is so good with God!

Worship Night

The above picture shows part of the worship band for a special meeting in 2008. In the picture are people from Ontario, Quebec, Romania, Bulgaria, and I guess you could include the UK too, since my accent apparently still betrays my geographical origin. ("What accent? I don't have an accent!")

We worshiped and prayed in 4 languages - English, French, Romanian, Bulgarian. Our long time friend from Bulgaria, Virginia was here to play keyboard. That's God for you! Renaud our friend from Iriquois Falls, via Sibiu, Romania was here with his team. Before we knew, three hours had gone by! Not planned. It was not long and boring, and no one left! Even afterwards people stayed behind to talk and visit. We were joined by many who have travelled as missionaries with us in the past. In all, it was a glorious time reflecting the heart of God that the nations should gather to praise him.

I had a revelation: When the nations come to bring their praise, it isn't necessarily going to be every person from every nation, but every nation will be represented. And every knee will bow, although some in shock and unwillingly. Which is why we need pictures like the next one:

Bulgaria

Our bus driver was a great young guy, a former wrestler, who therefore got the nickname from certain younger elements on our team of "Spike." At first he didn't like us very much, but he was stuck with us.

Through the diligence of the whole team, and grace extended, we came to the point where, at an outdoor evangelistic event, I asked Spike, "Are you ready to give your life to God?"He replied "Yes" and I led him to the front to pray with our friend Pastor Angel Pilev.

This was the moment of his transformation. Now he was our friend and brother. We were sad to part when it came to it, but I hope we'll meet again sometime this side of eternity.

In Sofia we attended church in a cinema. When they're waiting for the afternoon showing of Little Mermaid you have to leave in time. As we all hung out together on the street outside the theatre, I got into a discussion with my friends and family. I saw this heart melt as we talked about calling and destiny in God.

What a privilege to encourage and bless, and lay on hands for the purposes of God to unfold in the life of this couple!

We are connected, in the plan of God, like parts of a body, joined by ligaments, sinew, muscle and tissue. We are part of one flesh, with the life flow of the blood of Jesus running through. This is why we need to go. If there is no circulation, how will the body survive?
