Page 1 of 2 I watched with very many mixed emotions as the news story of the Chilean miners broke. Like many others I was wondering how they could have survived the cave in at all and then to be found and after many many days brought to the surface with so much love and elation was really beyond description.
I had to keep watching, I was mesmerized, and as I watched I asked the Lord if this had any prophetic meaning. What would He tell us through this unfolding drama that would have some meaning for His people.
The first part was the white butterfly story. The men were in their vehicles moving toward where they were to go when they saw a white butterfly ahead of them in the mine. I guess it was quite an unusual sight and they slowed down to watch the butterfly and as they slowed down the mine collapsed in front of them. The men dubbed the white butterfly their angel because if it hadn't been there they would not have slowed down and the mine would have collapsed on them. Psalm 91:11 says, "For He will command his angels concerning you to guard you in all your ways."
This really speaks of God's preservation of His people. He used such a small thing to accomplish something so big thing. We need to keep our eyes open so we don't miss the miracles He has for us. Psalm 103:4 says, “who redeems your life from the pit and crowns you with love and compassion.”
The miners had to make their way to what is called a safe room. I didn't even know that they had places like that. It makes perfect sense of course but who knew. Finding safety in the safe room even when they didn't know if they would be found and a very difficult time ahead of them is a place we can all find in Him even when the going gets tough and we have no idea how things are going to turn out or if they are ever going to be resolved. He is our shelter, our shield and rock. The body of Christ has certainly and is still going through the shaking that has come this year and the unknown end result is still the unknown. Proverbs 18:10 says, The name of the Lord is a strong tower, the righteous run into it and are safe.
As they started to bring the men to the surface I felt the Lord saying to me that a lot of His people have been in a place that is a lot like the mine. There is very little light, they are not doing the things they are used to doing, it is a place of not knowing quite what is going on and they are wondering if they will every get out of this place. The time is uncertain and unsure. This mine that these men were in was a gold and copper mine and I felt the Lord say “I am about to bring My Gold to the surface. In Job 23:8-10 Job is in place where he cannot see God, but he says in verse 10, “when He has tested me , I will come forth as gold.” He is about to bring His tried and tested gold to the surface.
