I recorded a song, which included the words, "....I thought that I was wise trying to make my own rules to live by....."

Except when I sang it I got my own words wrong (again!) and sang, "find my own rules" - doh. Now what? Do I try and punch in the right word? Very difficult when its a couple of years since the thing was originally done. It makes me think about why making a CD takes months and more sometimes. For me its years and more. I feel the release coming soon.... Push. Push!

It also makes me think about that whole concept of people trying to make up their own rules. As though the reality of the universe and your place in it could be established just by deciding that something is the way you determine. I mean, I imagine that my electricity bill is paid, but I still get a final demand. What's up with that?

Many imagine that god as they percieve or determine him her or it to be is the way it really is. This is reinforced by the philosophy of endorsing the rights of each individual to do what they want when they want and think what they want and believe what they want as long as it doesn't hurt anyone. Any god will do. If you want to mix a bit of Yoga, which seems to be the prevalent religion here in Hamilton lately, with Buddhism and Humanism, go for it. Your recipe tastes good to you? Great!

So the notion of absolute truth is sacrificed again on the altar of convenient belief. Yet God's final demand is perhaps already in the mail.
