Songwriting. English is such a great language, no matter what anyone tells you to the contrary! Jesus said, my peace I give to you.... not as the world gives. This week I was to play 'special music' for a graduation at Mission Services' Employment and Training Opportunity Centre. I had been wondering what to sing from the moment I was asked, but from the start felt the still, small, voice of the Lord saying, "You're supposed to be a song writer. Write something!" This grew in pressure until the day, so I wrote a song in the morning, then sang it in the afternoon. (Then promptly lost the words and chords, but could remember most of it! I think I have it all recovered now, Mary will be pleased to know). Anyway, one of the lines is, "my peace I give to you, not as the world would give...." I was thinking, "not 'as' the world gives" or "not 'like' the world gives" 'As' means the same way and the same time. 'Like' means the same way and the same kind. Which is why I think English is such a great and precise language. Jesus gives not as, meaning not at the same time, and not in the same way of giving. But I think you could also say, 'not like' meaning not the same way of giving, but also not the same kind of peace. His peace passes all understanding. Worldly peace is fleeting and unsure. Based on feelings and the actions or non-aciton of other people. I want the Jesus kind.
